What is Emerging Learning Technology?
Emerging Learning Technologies (ELT) are those that have the potential to change the current state of affairs within the context of education, in our case higher education. Some ELTs include but are not limited to artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, meaningful gamification, mobile learning, learning analytics, immersive classrooms and more. These technologies are considered emerging, although they may not be ‘new’, due to their evolvement over time in not only technology, but in how they transform the users learning experience. It is important to remember that ELTs are not always easily understood and are often actively in research phases to understand their full ability and impact in various contexts and learning environments.
